Ashley is an experienced education leader who likes to solve problems and build things from the ground-up. She has a track record of imagining and launching new ideas (+ helping others to do the same), building community in pursuit of a collective vision, and managing teams to help students reach their greatest potential. Ashley is curious about people, their stories, and their ideas and how to harness the power of all three to make the world a better place.
She recently joined architecture firm HKS as Vice President and Education Strategist to bridge academics and architecture and advance teaching and learning through the built environment. Prior to HKS, Ashley led the Dallas Independent School District's efforts to reimagine the educational experience for students through the implementation of personalized learning districtwide. She started her career as a middle school Spanish teacher and coach of new teachers.
Ashley graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2009 with dual degrees in the Plan II and Business Honors programs and from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2012 with a Master’s in Education Policy and Management.

Why did you get involved with Dallas Startup Week?
I got involved with Dallas Startup Week to help elevate education in the startup space in Dallas and to inspire more would-be entrepreneurs to act on their ideas.
What are you looking forward to in being a Track Captain?
I'm looking forward to seeing everything come together during Startup Week! I'm also excited about meeting new people in different industries and finding ways to collaborate in creative ways.
What is your favorite part about Dallas Startup Week?
Confession: I've never attended Dallas Startup Week before! Nevertheless, I think my favorite part will be the dynamic community that will come together to share ideas, encourage and support one another, and advance innovation and entrepreneurship in Dallas.
What should attendees look forward to in participating in your Track?
Attendees should look forward to new ideas, inspiring dialogue, and student voice in the Education track!

How will your expertise contribute to Dallas Startup Week?
The common thread across all my career experiences to-date is entrepreneurship: I am passionate about solving old problems with new, creative, and impactful solutions. This passion plus my experience in public, private, and non-profit organizations in the Dallas education ecosystem will help shape an inspiring and dynamic Education track.
